KAREN A. WYLE
Karen A. Wyle
Facebook TwitterKaren A. Wyle was born a Connecticut Yankee, but eventually settled in Bloomington, Indiana, home of Indiana University. She now considers herself a Hoosier. Wyle is an appellate attorney, photographer, political junkie, and mother of two wildly creative daughters. Her voice is the product of almost five decades of reading both literary and genre fiction. It is no doubt also influenced, although she hopes not fatally tainted, by her years of law practice. Her personal history has led her to focus on often-intertwined themes of family, communication, the impossibility of controlling events, and the persistence of unfinished business. Wyle lives with her husband and their sweet but neurotic dog.
The Twin-Bred Series: Books 1-3
by Karen A. Wyle
Read Books One through Three of the Twin-Bred series in this boxed set! Praise for Twin-Bred (Book One): “[Twin-Bred is] one of the best science fiction novels I've read in decades. . . .[O]riginal . . . beautifully written and riveting. The complex, flawlessly structured, plot evolves logically, but continues to surprise to the very end.” – author R. Lee Holz “This well-written story crept into my mind and will stay there.” – author Julie Elizabeth Powell "Now and then I read a really good book, and this is one of the best. . . . I would love a sequel to this beautifully written, captivating novel." -- author Ellen Ghyll Praise for Reach (Book Two): "Reach is a very intelligent and elegantly written novel. . . . [E]very page held me riveted. I have read a great deal of science fiction but this is a milestone in the genre." -- author Gordon Roger Lawrence "[T]this isn’t strangeness for strangeness’ sake. Intriguing questions of identity are explored—what makes us real, as well as what makes us human, what constitutes true sharing, and what will it take to make us see ourselves as others see us. Loss, healing and hope rest in surprising places in these pages. . . . An enjoyable story with great characters, great plot, and intriguing food for thought, Reach is a worthy successor to Twin-Bred and this author’s reach is impressive." -- Sheila Deeth, "Vine Voice" Praise for Leaders (Book Three): "Leaders is an elegant book. . . . Some books are great fun and fifteen minutes after you finish, you forget it. No reader will not forget this." -- author Gordon Roger Lawrence Description of Twin-Bred (Book One): Humans have lived on Tofarn, planet of creeks and rivers, for seventy years, but they still don't understand the Tofa. The Tofa are an enigma, from their featureless faces to the four arms that sometimes seem to be five. They take arbitrary umbrage at the simplest human activities, while annoying their human neighbors in seemingly pointless ways. The next infuriating, inexplicable incident may explode into war. Scientist Mara Cadell's radical proposal: that host mothers carry fraternal twins, human and Tofa, in the hope that the bond between twins can bridge the gap between species. Mara knows about the bond between twins: her own twin, Levi, died in utero, but she has secretly kept him alive in her mind as companion and collaborator. Mara succeeds in obtaining governmental backing for her project – but both the human and Tofa establishments have their own agendas. Mara must shepherd the Twin-Bred through dangers she anticipated and others that even the canny Levi could not foresee. Will the Twin-Bred bring peace, war, or something else entirely?...

Playback Effect
by Karen A. Wyle
**Awarded Five Stars on Readers' Favorite** In the near future, new technology records the highlights of emotional experience for others to share. Buy a helmet and you can feel the exhilaration of an Olympic ski jumper, or the heat of a lucid dreamer's erotic imaginings. Commit a crime, and you may be sentenced to endure the suffering you inflicted on others. But such recordings may carry more information than the public has realized. What will criminals learn about their victims? When a husband is wrongfully convicted of injuring his wife, how will their marriage change? And what uses will a sociopath find for recordings of the experience of death? "[T]ruly absorbing . . . . [U]nintended consequences are the trademark of this author. And there’s something immensely compelling about watching those consequences play out. . . . [A]n intriguing, compelling novel, set not so far from today . . . with deep-set moral questions, well-drawn to shed light on the present." -- Sheila Deeth, "Vine Voice" reviewer "[S]cience fiction, but . . . also a legal/crime thriller. The author, who has an extensive legal background, weaves it seamlessly into the story from start to finish. . . . M[]oves from one character to another to keep the suspense level high and the tension as tight as a steel cable on a suspension bridge. . . . Dialogue, descriptions, and narrative are flawless – not a wasted word anywhere. This is a book that will linger in your thoughts long after you’ve stopped reading – and are likely to invade your dreams." -- Awesome Indies "If you enjoy a well-imagined thesis on the implications of future technology, or a nuanced exploration of human relationships, or just a gripping techno-thriller, then Playback Effect is well worth a look." -- Strange Charm

Division
by Karen A. Wyle
New technology, new choices . . . but who gets to choose? Conjoined twins Gordon and Johnny have never let their condition keep them from living full and fulfilling lives. Gordon looks forward to many years of closeness and cooperation. Johnny, however, faces their future with increasing restlessness, even dread. When the boys are in their teens, the new technologies of accelerated human cloning and brain transplants are combined into a single medical procedure. Someone whose body has suffered such extensive damage as to make normal life impossible may -- with court approval -- be cloned and then given a brain transplant into the clone body. With Gordon's unwitting assistance, Johnny realizes that this procedure provides the chance he had never dared to hope for -- the chance to live in a "normal," separate body. But Gordon considers their conjoined life a blessing, rather than a curse. He has no intention of accepting separation -- not without a fight . . . . Division, like Wyle's earlier novels, uses original settings and situations to explore universal themes: the complexity and intensity of family relationships, the nature of individual identity, and the far-reaching effects of the choices we make. **Awarded Readers' Favorite's 5-star seal**

Wander Home
by Karen A. Wyle
Death is what you make it. . . . Eleanor never wanted to leave the daughter she loved so much. The overpowering urge to wander -- to search, without knowing what she sought -- drove her away. She left little Cassidy in her family's loving care. But Cassidy and the others died in an accident before Eleanor could find her way home. Now, they are all reunited, in an afterlife where nothing is truly lost. Places once loved may be revisited, memories relived and even shared. One may be any age suitable to the mood and moment. Surely this is a place where Eleanor and her family can understand and heal. But some of the memories haunting Eleanor are of dreams she had tried to forget. Somehow, she must solve the mystery of her life -- or none of them will be at peace. --"Wyle should be proud of the opening scene of this book as it showcases . . . her descriptive powers . . . Wander Home acts like a large, soft comfort blanket. But don’t get too comfortable. It is a barbed comfort blanket, charged with emotion. An excellent read, which I heartily recommend." -- The Indie Tribe --"A story about the consequences of the choices we make, and the difficulty even we can have in understanding – and living with – the reach of those consequences. Wyle’s . . . vision of the afterlife . . . is one of the loveliest. . . . Wyle has a lovely way with language, weaving characters and setting together into a seamless tapestry . . . . A beautiful story, well-written and smoothly paced with characters you can’t help but fall in love with." All Things Jill-Elizabeth --"The afterlife that Wyle creates is brimming with memories, places to visit, and amazing people to meet. It's written in such a way that it is truly life after death. . . . [A] magical story that delves to the depths of the human psyche and is definitely recommended." The Coffee Pot
